we believe that human identity is increasingly influenced and shaped by the media, as it generally shapes our sense of who we are because we continually passively consume different types of media that influences our behaviour and the things that we do. for example the tv series skins is very influential amongst teenagers such as the girl who threw a party because she saw on an episode. This reflects the mirror stage theory that compares media consumption to children developing a sense of identity through seeing themselves in a mirror, which is similar to when someone identifies with a character through media and therefore develops an identity relating to the character.
The media is increasingly important in how we shape or identity through the development of social networking sites like Facebook.
